As you know from last week's newsletter, I recently attended the launch of Bumble's 2024 dating trends, a juicy event revealing the future of love and relationships. Hosted by Bumble’s APAC Communications Director, Lucille McCart, and resident sexologist, Chantelle Otten, the event spotlighted intriguing trends set to shape the dating landscape.

2024 is heralded as "The Year of the Self," emphasising personal values and desires in dating. Insights from over 25,000 Bumble users globally have painted a picture of a shift towards self-acceptance and the rejection of perfectionism in love.

Key trends for the year include:

  1. Betterment burnout: A move away from relentless self-optimisation. Singles, particularly women, are embracing their true selves, rejecting the pressure to constantly improve for a partner.

  2. Most valuable partner: Shared love for sports is becoming a must-have in relationships, shaping how and with whom people choose to date.

  3. Timeline decline: Traditional relationship timelines are being reevaluated, with more people, especially women, creating their own paths in love and life.

  4. Val-core dating: Political and social engagement has become a desirable trait in partners, highlighting the importance of shared values in relationships.

  5. Intuitive intimacy: Emotional intimacy is taking precedence over physical aspects, with a focus on finding safety, security, and understanding in relationships.

  6. Openhearted masculinity: Men are becoming more open and vulnerable, leading to more authentic and emotionally rich dating experiences.

This shift towards inward reflection and authenticity marks a significant change in how people approach dating and relationships. Bumble's insights suggest a year where personal values, emotional vulnerability, and authentic connections take center stage, promising a more fulfilling and genuine search for love.
